Preterm babies require special care—and so do their parents. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by families in neonatal intensive care units, South Western Sydney Local Health District partnered with Trinet Technologies to co-develop a mobile solution that extends clinical support beyond hospital boundaries.
The result: Neonatal Care & Me, a mobile app designed to help parents and caregivers confidently care for their preterm babies both during hospitalization and after discharge.
Bridging the Knowledge Gap Through Digital Innovation
Clinical experts from neonatal units across the district worked closely with Trinet’s interactive design and development team to bring this idea to life. The app offers parents practical video-based guidance on crucial care activities, such as:
- How to monitor a baby’s temperature
- Understanding and managing tube feeding
- Safely handling oxygen probes
- Tracking the baby’s age and weight through digital growth charts
By blending clinical accuracy with intuitive design, the app ensures that parents can learn and revisit important skills at their own pace—on their own terms.

Built with Empathy, Backed by Security
Neonatal Care & Me is more than just a healthcare app—it is a digital companion in a parent’s care journey. Trinet hosted the app securely within its Sydney cloud infrastructure, using the Trinet Enterprise Cloud, guaranteeing data privacy and seamless performance.
Every design choice—from the soothing blue-and-white interface to the structured, bite-sized content—was made to convey calmness, trust, and clarity in emotionally sensitive situations.
The app was also piloted with members of Miracle Babies, a leading Australian organization supporting families of premature and sick newborns, to ensure real-world relevance and accessibility.
“Healthcare innovation is not just about technology—it’s about people. With South Western Sydney Local Health District, we co-created a solution that supports families when they need it most, and ensures care continues from hospital to home.”
From Hospital to Home: A Seamless Care Continuum
By putting essential care guidance into the hands of parents, this digital solution:
- Reinforces clinical training received in NICUs and SCNs
- Improves caregiver confidence and reduces readmission risks
- Aligns with South Western Sydney Local Health District’s mission of patient-centered innovation
- Empowers families to participate actively in their baby’s recovery and development
Available for free on both the Apple App Store and Google Play, the app is already improving early childhood care experiences across the region.
